Way of the Hunter jest grą symulacyjną, która pozwala nam posmakować myśliwskiej profesji. Tytuł został opracowany przez studio Nine Rocks Games, a jego wydaniem zajęła się firma THQ Nordic.

W Way of the Hunter wcielamy się w świeżo upieczonego właściciela domku myśliwskiego. Opowiedziana w grze historia dotyka takich zagadnień, jak etyczne myślistwo, rodzinne polowania, a także rywalizacja i przyjaźnie, jakie zawiązują się pomiędzy myśliwymi.

W Way of the Hunter akcję oglądamy z perspektywy pierwszej osoby (FPP). Produkcja oddaje nam do dyspozycji dwie rozległe mapy - jedną ulokowaną w Stanach Zjednoczonych, a drugą w Europie - o powierzchni ponad 140 kilometrów kwadratowych każda. Jak sugeruje tytuł i tematyka gry, w trakcie rozgrywki zajmujemy się polowaniem na rozmaite zwierzęta. Te ostatnie posiadają realistyczne modele zachowań, co dotyczy zarówno ich reakcji na naszą obecność, jak i miejsc ich bytowania.

By dopaść swoją zdobycz, musimy opanować sztukę odszukiwania tropów zwierząt i podążania za nimi oraz analizy plam krwi. Poza tym należy często korzystać z lornetki, by dostrzec cel z bezpiecznej odległości. Kiedy natomiast ofiara znajdzie się w naszym zasięgu, nie pozostaje nam nic innego, jak odbezpieczyć broń, wymierzyć i oddać strzał. Tytuł oferuje możliwość dokonania inspekcji strzału - odtwarzanie i swobodne przewijanie nagrań pozwala dokładnie przeanalizować tor lotu pocisku. Jest to o tyle ważne, że gra w realistyczny sposób symuluje balistykę i zachowanie kul.

Nagrodami za dobrze oddane (a co za tym idzie - śmiertelne) strzały są trofea, których jakość zależy między innymi od kondycji fizycznej i wieku naszego celu.
