Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown to przygodowa gra akcji zrealizowana w formie platformówki 2,5D. Podczas zabawy gracz eksploruje mapy, rozwiązane zagadki, unika zagrożeń i walczy z wrogami. Kluczową rolę w rozgrywce odgrywają akrobatyczne ewolucje i specjalne moce bohatera.
Pod względem fabularnym gra jest rebootem, który nie stanowi kontynuacji wątków z żadnego wcześniejszego wcielenia serii.
Akcja toczy się w starożytnej Persji. Gracz wciela się w Sargona, jednego z tzw. Nieśmiertelnych, czyli elitarnych wojowników królewskiej gwardii. Historia zaczyna się, gdy ochraniany przez nas książę Persji zostaje porwany i na nasze barki spada jego uratowanie. Nie będzie to łatwe, bo ślad księcia wiedzie na Górę Qaf, gdzie dochodzi do niewyjaśnialnych zjawisk – na czele z zaburzeniami czasu.
