Rok 2044. Postapokaliptyczny krajobraz zniszczonej Ameryki przemierza Eli (Denzel Washington) - samotnik i wolny strzelec. Despota, chcąc przejąć totalną władzę nad ludźmi, za wszelką cenę próbuje wejść w posiadanie księgi. Na drodze Eliego staje również niezwykle seksowna dziewczyna o imieniu Solara (Mila Kunis znana z roli w „Max Payne”). Rozpoczyna się dramatyczna walka o ocalenie ludzkości.
