Opis:
Gears 5 to piąta (pomijając prequel zatytułowany Gears of War: Judgment) odsłona bestsellerowego cyklu Gears of War. Za opracowaniem tej produkcji stoi studio The Coalition, które od czwartej części opiekuje się tą serią (wcześniej pieczę nad nią sprawowała firma Epic Games).
Akcja Gears 5 toczy się po wydarzeniach przedstawionych w czwartej części serii. W roli głównej obsadzono Kait Diaz, która w towarzystwie Delmonta Walkera udaje się w długą podróż przez malownicze, ale i pełne niebezpieczeństw zakątki planety Sera. Protagonistka zamierza dowiedzieć się więcej na temat pochodzenia Szarańczy (ang. Locust) i odkryć źródło trapiących ją koszmarów, w których, jak wierzy, kryje się jakaś wiadomość. Jedną z głównych osi fabularnych jest również uruchomienie Młota Świtu, czyli potężnej broni energetycznej atakującej z orbity.
W Gears 5 akcję obserwujemy z perspektywy trzeciej osoby (TPP). W trakcie zabawy odwiedzamy zróżnicowane lokacje - zarówno tereny pustynne, jak i rejony pokryte śniegiem. Po raz kolejny nadrzędnym elementem rozgrywki są starcia z przeciwnikami (mowa tak o szeregowych oponentach, jak i o potężnych bossach), których eliminujemy przy pomocy rozbudowanego arsenału broni i gadżetów; oprócz będącego ikoną serii lancera, stanowiącego hybrydę karabinu maszynowego i piły łańcuchowej, możemy skorzystać między innymi z shotgunów, granatników czy karabinów snajperskich. W trakcie potyczek równie ważne, co umiejętne żonglowanie dostępnym uzbrojeniem, jest korzystanie z systemu osłon - nasze zdrowie regeneruje się bowiem automatycznie, gdy nie jesteśmy trafiani przez wrogów.
W Gears 5 zdecydowano się zwiększyć rolę lewitującego bota Jacka towarzyszącego drużynie. W miarę zdobywania kolejnych komponentów możemy ulepszać jego umiejętności, takie jak wytwarzanie ruchomej bariery przed pociskami czy rażenie nieprzyjaciół ładunkami elektrycznymi.
Aby urozmaicić nieco rozgrywkę twórcy pokusili się także na umieszczenie w grze otwartych etapów, po których poruszamy się specjalnymi saniami wyposażonymi w żagiel. Odwiedzając mniejsze lokacje umieszczone w owych etapach wykonujemy zarówno misje z głównego wątku, jak i misje dodatkowe, pozwalające na odblokowanie specjalnych umiejętności Jacka.
